Tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument used in classical, popular and religious music of the sub continent and also in Hindustani Classical music. The history of this instrument is at times the subject of debate. The most common historical account credits the 13th century poet Amir Khusro as having invented the instrument by splitting a Pakhwaj into two parts. Today, the instrument Tabla has been played and enjoyed in many countries and India has the pride positioning with renowned Ustads like Allah Rakha, Zakir Husain etc. |
